Meet Other Maries
Every year, 65,000 immigrant students graduate from high school in the same position as Marie. These students met the same educational requirements as their citizen classmates, but despite their accomplishments, all but a handful of states effectively bar them from going to college. Even if the state provides opportunities for these immigrant students to pursue higher education, they can't put their education to work in jobs that desperately need to be filled once they graduate. Furthermore, the doors to citizenship are closed to these immigrant students who want nothing more than to contribute to the country they call home - the U.S.
